Description

Thalictrum Black Stockings stands out from the crowd. Multiple, tall, dark almost black stems, sway in the breeze. Large sprays of frothy-looking, bright purple blooms are held high above lacy, aquilegia-like foliage. Thalictrum bring an informal mood to your garden with a light airy feel. Often thought of as a cottage garden favourite, Thalictrum look equally fabulous in most planting schemes where they make a dramatic, architectural presence. Thalictrum Black Stockings has been given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for outstanding garden performance. Known also as Meadow Rue, Thalictrum Black Stockings is one of the easiest plants to grow and can be left undisturbed for years, adding much needed height. Thalictrum are said to be named after Thalia, one of the nine Greek patrons of comedy, possibly because of the willowy charm of providing stature while remaining elegant. Attractive to bees and butterflies, deer resistant and excellent cut for arrangements within your home. Thalictrum Black Stockings prefers to be gown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade and reaches a height of 2m and a spread of 60-80cm. Thalictrum are fully hardy perennials to -20 C, dormant over winter, they will sprout in spring. Thriving outside with no winter protection required, for you to enjoy for years to come.
