Vibrant and versatile with feathery, eye-catching airy plumes that give height without a solid dominance Tamarix ramosissima Rubra is a must have for your garden. Slender, dark, arching branches hold an abundance of fluffy dark pink flowers on striking red branches in summer and autumn, creating elegant fluffy racemes. Being nectar-rich, the blooms are much loved by our pollinating friends and the whole effect is complimented perfectly by the deciduous needle-like foliage. Given the common named Salt Cedar, Tamarix ramosissima Rubra is just perfect for a coastal garden, as they are not bothered by saline. Perfect for inland gardens either urban or country, Tamarix are versatile, coping well with pollution, work well as a wind break and are deer resistant. With a long tap root, Tamarix are also very drought tolerant. Originating from south-eastern Europe and Asia, the wood was once used to make powerful longbows, and Tamarix are mentioned several times in the bible. Wedgwood created a design for their pottery called Tamarix. Tamarix ramosissima Rubra is both vibrant and versatile, preferring to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Reaching a mature height and spread of up to 5m, it is a fully hardy perennial requiring no winter protection.
