Description

You may find it hard to believe, the wonderful tomato was once known as 'The Poison Apple' by Europeans. Luckily the invention of pizza changed our minds about this delectable fruit. Your 'Solanum Tomato Gardeners Delight' is one of Britain's favourite varieties and is sure to become one of yours as well. Producing generous-sized, bright red, cherry tomatoes, this vigorous plant will fill your salads with delicious tomatoes from July all the way to October. Ecstatic bees and butterflies will flock to the yellow flowers from their earliest appearance in June, and the long trusses of succulent fruit which follow will delight you. Highly adaptable, your plant will happily thrive in a container, garden, greenhouse or growing bag, as long as you place it in a sunny, sheltered location. Mint and basil make great companions for your solanum, helping to keep pests away from your fruit. This tender annual favours warm, temperate conditions, so gradually acclimatise your plant to the outdoors in the early weeks of summer. Best planted in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil, your 'Solanum Tomato Gardeners Delight' will also require canes for support as it grows. To help your annual flourish, water regularly to keep the soil nicely moist. Once flowering, offer your plant a fortnightly feed of high potash, liquid fertiliser. When fully grown, your 'Solanum Tomato Gardeners Delight' will reach a mature height and spread of 1.5m by 60cm.
