Description

Extra-large tomatoes with a generous crop of flavoursome fruit Loved by the Aztecs, it took the invention of pizza in Naples to finally persuade us to make the delectable tomato a regular on our menus. These days, it is hard to imagine life without the tomato. Luckily, your 'Solanum Tomato Buffalosteak' will ensure you have a steady supply of large, bright red fruit all the way from July through to October. These sizeable, ribbed tomatoes are intensely flavoured - perfect for BLTS and hamburgers. The firm flesh and higher ratio of flesh to juice in your fruit will also make them a brilliant choice for gorgeous sauces, stuffed tomatoes and salsas. Flowering from June, the bright yellow blooms on your 'Solanum Tomato Buffalosteak' will entice bees and butterflies before developing into a generous crop of huge, delicious fruit. This adaptable annual will thrive in a container, garden, greenhouse or growing bag. A sunny, sheltered location and humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil will provide your solanumn with the best growing conditions. Water your plant regularly to keep the soil just moist and tie to canes for support as it matures. Your tender solanum needs warm, temperate conditions, so acclimatise your plant in early summer if you plan to keep it outdoors. After your plant first begins to fruit, a fortnightly feed of high potash, liquid fertiliser will encourage a wonderful crop. In maturity, your solanum will reach a height and spread of 1.8m by 60cm.
