Description

Astrantias are perfect for adding colour to partially shaded spots in the garden. Astrantia major, also known as Aunt Hattie's Pincushion, offers posies of tiny fl owers surrounded by ruff-like bracts, creating sprays of intriguing star-like blooms on upright, branching stems from May until September, sometimes even longer. Plant in partial shade where their distinctive blooms, in shades of pink, red and white will glow. They are also great for attracting pollinators and make excellent cut or dried fl owers.

How hardy are your plants?

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
