Description

Known as the Alpine Squill, Scilla bifolia Rosea are one of the earliest flowers to bloom in spring.Dramatic dusky-pink buds make a statement, as they open upwards to form dense cones of sparkling, star-shaped lilac-pink flowers over fleshy strap-shaped foliage. Native to central and southern Europe and Turkey, this beautiful and reliable little plant will return year after year, adding carpets of colour soon after the snowdrops have faded.Plant your bulbs in autumn, in moist, well-drained soil in part shade at a depth of 8cm. These clump forming plants will reach a height of 15cm and a spread of just 5cm, making them perfect for underplanting and adding early colour to your pots.Lovely planted in woodland areas or rockeries to naturalise, producing a sea of delicate hues for your garden.

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
