Description

Sanguisorba Tanna is (thankfully) known more simply as 'burnet'. For a straightforward no-nonsense plant, saying the name is the most complicated part of growing Japanese burnet. Once planted there is not much more needs done before you receive Tanna's bounty. From June to September masses of spires grow through the foliage, each topped with a deep red flower. Come autumn, the plant dies back and disappears underground, only to re-grow fresh in the Spring. The blue-grey crinkled foliage appears in late Spring and lasts until the plant commences to die back. Many gardeners would love to grow burnet, though most varieties become too big for the smaller garden. The excellent news regards Sansguisorba Tanna, is this is a compact variety and will not look out of place, no matter the size of your garden.
