Description
Place Salvia Nachtvlinder near a path or seat where you can fully enjoy the sweet minty-blackcurrant aroma which the foliage releases whenever it is brushed past. Velvety dark plum-purple open-mouthed blooms with a sumptuous red-purple sheen, are held on strong wiry stems from May to September and often longer, until the first frosts. Nachtvlinder is a Dutch word, meaning night moth - a wonderful pollinator. Much like its namesake, the flowers will be busy and buzzing with numerous visits from passing pollinators, mainly bees. Salvia Nachtvlinder has been given the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, for outstanding performance in the garden. Prefers well-drained soil in full sun or part shade and will reach a height of 75cm with a spread of 50cm. A hardy perennial (H5) which will tolerate temperatures as low as -15 C in well-drained ground. Grow outside all year round, only providing winter protection during the very harshest of weather. The plant will keep its foliage during milder winters.
