We like to think of Phlox paniculata - or Garden Phlox - as the 'Chanel of the plant world' and certainly deserve a place in any garden. Originating in North America Phlox were introduced to Europe in the 1700's. The name stems from the Greek for 'flame', and they certainly do catch the eye. Phlox have been a firm favourite in summer gardens for many years. Producing large, showy flowerheads over neat, upright clumps of foliage all summer long and often again in October, releasing clouds of gentle sweet fragrance. Plant near a door, window or path so that you can fully enjoy the sweet scent. Much loved by our pollinating friends, the nectar-rich blooms will bring bees and butterflies flocking into your garden for a feast. Phlox are incredibly easy to grow low maintenance plants, happy grown in either borders or containers. You will enjoy armfuls of blooms as they last well when cut for a vase to bring the scent indoors. Phlox are slug resistant and tolerant of most soil conditions in sun or part shade, growing to an approximate height of 75-90cm (30-36') and spread 45-60cm (18-24'). Being fully hardy perennials, Phlox can be left outside in winter for you to enjoy each summer for years to come.
