Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Blackfield'

A long-flowering, dark and eye-catching variety from which flowers emerge on strong stems, ideal for cutting, throughout July to October. Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Blackfield' draws its name not from the dark red flowers but from the black tips on the buds as the flowers emerge. The richness of colouration in these slender spikes is captivating, particularly in contrast to the dark green foliage which forms weed-suppressing carpets underneath from February to the first frosts. Excellent as floriferous, naturalising groundcover, this variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its reliable and outstanding performance in the garden. Flowers are much loved by our pollinating friends whilst deer and rabbits tend to leave plants alone if this is an issue to you. Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Blackfield' prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in full sun and reaches a height of 1.1m with a spread of 90cm. An herbaceous, fully hardy perennial which will flourish outside all year and requires no winter protection.
