Tell Me More...
Pennisetum alopecuroides Black Beauty boasts dark purple, bottle-brush-like flowerheads above a fountain of slender foliage, hence the common name Chinese Fountain Grass. Impressive, dark, cigar-shaped seedheads follow in late summer and autumn.Loved by florists, the graceful, arching stems are excellent cut or dried for airy, floral designs within your home. Eye-catching ornamental grasses are fantastic as a contrast against other perennials, introducing movement and softening hard landscaping as they weave together. Fluffy, brush-like inflorescences are incredibly tactile and versatile in borders or containers and are perfect for sensory gardens.Pennisetum alopecuroides Black Beauty has an RHS hardiness rating of H3 so may need protection in colder parts of the area curing the harshest winters. Prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in a sunny spot, reaching an approximate height of 1m and spreading to around 60-75cm.
