Description
A titillating trio of exotic Passion flowers, perfect for enhancing vertical spaces Passiflora, otherwise known as Passion flowers as the flowers mirror the symbols of Christs crucifixion, are intriguing climbers which are fast-growing in nature and tropical in looks. Large, intricate flowers bloom profusely in succession from April to September. Grow in a spot in full sun or part shade where the flowers can be seen and appreciated. Collection includes showy 'Frederick' H&S: 8m x 4m, pure white 'Avalanche' H&S: 2.5m x 2.5m, and unusual violet-pink 'Victoria' H&S: 8m x 4m. Oval fruits ripen in autumn after a warm summer, or when grown in a greenhouse and are edible, if you can get to them before the birds reach them first. Passion flowers thrive in moist, well-drained soil in a sheltered south or west-facing aspect. In cold areas protect plants with fleece or move undercover to a frost-free place. Water regularly during the growing season and feed with liquid fertiliser every other week. Prune in spring to tidy plants and promote fresh growth. Passiflora are semi-evergreen, hardy and half-hardy perennials. The varieties in this collection have an RHS hardiness rating of H4 and H3.
