Description
The ever-popular Papaver orientale have long been thought of as the queen of the early summer border and rupifragum Orange Feathers is one of the best. Large, vibrant orange, crinkled, tissue-paper-like blooms give such an incredibly cheerful display in late spring and early summer. From May to September, the huge satiny, solitary blooms of Papaver Orange Feathers are excellent when cut for a vase within your home and the dried seed heads look stunning in arrangements. The rough, bristly foliage is usually dormant by mid-summer and dies back completely, giving plenty of room for later flowering perennials, and will then re-emerge in autumn. Don't forget to collect and save the seed to be sown the following season for many new plants to share with friends the following year. Native to north-eastern Turkey, where it inhabits alpine areas, Papaver orientalis was introduced to western Europe in the 1700's and has risen in popularity with many more new cultivars introduced following intensive breeding. Papaver Orange Feathers is rabbit, slug and deer resistant, preferring to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in full sun. In maturity, these fully hardy perennials will reach 45-60cm tall, spreading to 30cm.

H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F).
