Description

Papaver orientale Beauty of Livermere is one of the most loved of all Papaver. Large, blousy, pillar-box red blooms are produced in late spring and early summer on strong stems above hairy foliage that dies back after flowering. Perfect for giving a little extra space to your late summer flowering perennials. Fresh foliage appears again in autumn. Native to eastern Turkey, where it inhabits alpine areas, Papaver orientalis was introduced to western Europe in the 1700's, and it is risen in popularity with many more new cultivars introduced following intensive breeding. One of the most beautiful when cut for a vase, the dried seed heads are stunning when used in arrangements. Papaver orientale are rabbit, slug and deer resistant, preferring to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in full sun. In maturity, these fully hardy perennials will reach 70-90cm tall, spreading to 45-60cm.
