Description

Paeonia lactiflora Coral Charm is an absolute charmer in borders and large containers. Forming an attractive mound of pretty, finally cut foliage, fragrant, semi-double blooms open salmon-pink in late spring, maturing to orange and then finally yellow. You really need to see them to believe how beautiful they are. Exquisite as blooms cut for your home lasting well in a vase, Peony are one of the most popular flowers in wedding bouquets. According to Greek mythology, Paeon was the physician to the gods. He angered his teacher by curing Pluto, giving him a milky liquid extracted from the Paeony root. His teacher was jealous and threatened to kill Paeon but Zeus saved him, turning him into a beautiful peony flower. Paeony were well known in ancient Chinese gardens, and the sweetened and partially cooked petals are still eaten as a dessert in the area. In the late 1700s they were brought to Europe for us to enjoy. Peony signify romance, elegance, honour and wealth in the language of flowers. Paeonia Coral Charm has been given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, for outstanding performance in the garden. Preferring to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade and reaching a height and spread of around 70-100cm, Paeonia Coral Charm is an herbaceous, fully hardy perennial that will die back over winter, in readiness to sprout again the following spring with no extra winter protection. It will give you fragrant joy for years to come.
