Tell Me More...
Osteospermum 'Tresco Purple' is a wonderfully popular groundcover plant with an abundance of bright blooms. Like all Osteospermum is it incredibly versatile with evergreen, mat-forming foliage which helps to suppress weeds. Leaves are covered by a profusion of blooms from May to September, often longer, creating carpets of rich magenta and purple that will be awash with bees and other pollinators.Originating from South Africa, Osteospermum are named after the seeds. Osteon is Greek for bone and spermum is Latin for seeds - jumble the two together and the name refers to the seeds being 'bone hard'. Drought tolerant, Osteospermum 'Tresco Purple' is perfect in the front of your borders or patio containers, preferring well-drained soil in sun although plants will happily cope with partial shade. Low maintenance and easy to grow, reaching a height of 20-30cm, the foliage spreads 45-75cm. As a half-hardy, herbaceous perennial, plants will need protection from winter frosts if temperatures drop below -5 C.
