Description

One of Chelsea Flower Show's favourites. Often featuring in show gardens, the airy, lacy-white blooms and fine, fern-like foliage are invaluable for adding texture to every scheme and almost seem to sparkle in the sunlight. The crisp white blooms come together to form intricate flat-topped clusters. Held on strong stems, Orlaya make wonderful long-lasting cut flowers, ensuring that you will have blooms in your home from June to October. Native to the Mediterranean, often found growing wild in grassy fields or groves, and full of nectar and pollen, Orlaya are much loved by our pollinating friends. Deer tend to leave them alone. Orlaya grandiflora has received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society for outstanding performance in the garden. Orlaya grandiflora prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in full sun, reaching a height and spread of approximately 60cm (24'). Being a fully hardy annual, don't forget to collect the seed which can easily be sown the following year to give you lots more plants to enjoy and share.

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
