Description

A new twist on a cottage garden favourite, Love in a Mist is usually cornflower blue, but this new beauty Nigella papillosa African Bride has crisp white petals with a dark centre. Nigella produce and abundance of disc-like blooms which almost seem to float above pretty, fine, fennel-like foliage from July to September. Stunningly beautiful seed pods follow. Both the blooms and seed pods are amazing when cut for either fresh or dried for indoor arrangements, whether with other flowers or on their own. Nigella is equally at home in borders or containers, the common name, Love in a Mist, is said to come from that fact that the flowers almost seem to be encased in a delicate mist, made of the feathery bracts. Incredibly easy to grow, Nigella African Bride prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade, reaching a mature height of approximately 70cm, spreading to 30-45cm. This plant is a hardy annual, however the seed can very easily be collected to be sown and produce new plants for the following year.
