Description
Rare and unusual, Muscari Ivor's Pink is deceptively delicate, yet resilient and hardy. The tiny oval flowers in charming shades of pink are tightly packed on stems just 10-20cm tall, their shape resembling an upside-down bunch of miniature grapes, hence the common name Grape Hyacinth. Pale yellow-green buds open and develop into the softest shade of nude-pink blooms, which mature into dusky-maroon as they age down the stem. Grape hyacinths originate in the Mediterranean and are a treat to have growing in any garden and are much-loved by bees, who are attracted by their beautiful fragrance. A naturalising beauty that will develop into drifts of colour. Plant your bulbs in autumn, 10cm deep in moist, well-drained soil in part shade and you will be rewarded when they emerge in March and April. Muscari Ivor's Pink is beautiful planted in clusters with other spring flowers such as smaller narcissi and tulips, and delightful in spring pots where their enchanting beauty and scent can be enjoyed up close. Muscari are hardy perennial bulbs which require no frost protection.
