Description
New and much sought after Muscari armeniacum Julia has prompted much interest. Lavender-blue, urn-shaped flowers with delicate white edge cluster together on wiry stems. Each flowerhead is topped with green-tinged white florets which open bright white. Muscari armeniacum Julia can also be forced to flower indoors. Excellent for cutting, Julia makes wonderful flower displays when arranged in small bottles or vases, lasting up to a week. Muscari are a classic spring flower. The name Muscari comes from the Greek word for musk, referring to the delicate scent. The clusters of blooms look rather like a bunch of grapes, hence the common name, Grape Hyacinth. Naturalising well amongst garden verges or planted at the front of borders, Muscari armeniacum originate from the eastern Mediterranean, where they grow wild in the woods and meadows. A treasure in any garden deer and rabbit tend to steer clear. Plant Muscari armeniacum Julia bulbs in autumn, in moist, well-drained soil in part shade. A wonderful display will greet you when planted in swathes. Reaching a height of approximately 15-20cm, Julia is a fully hardy bulb which if left undisturbed will naturalise and give you years of joy.
