Description
Amazing Magnolias Collection brings you a much-loved tree but in more unusual and exciting varieties. Each produces huge blooms in April and May with a sweet, floral and lightly fruity scent - akin to champagne - to waft through the garden on spring breezes. Magnolia as a species is over 150 million years old and fossils show they were the first flowering plant on the planet - arriving before the bees. They remain largely pollinated by beetles who are attracted to scent and the edible tissues which contain the pollen. This collection is made up of AGM holding x loebneri 'Leonard Messel' with its beautifully rounded shape and large, pink star-shaped blooms, H&S: 8m; 'Star Wars' - another AGM holder with huge rose-pink blooms which are darker at the base, H: 6m S: 4m, and x acuminata 'Elizabeth' with a pyramidal form and striking yellow blooms H: 10m S: 6m. Plants reach mature height over 20 years and can be lightly pruned in midsummer. All prefer moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Hardy deciduous trees or shrubs.
