Lysimachia atropurpurea Beaujolais is an incredibly adaptable perennial, able to thrive in difficult clay soils, bog gardens, the edge of ponds or shady woodland areas. Often thought of as a cottage garden plant, it would be equally as stunning in containers in more modern planting styles, if the soil doesn't dry out. In spring, Lysimachia Beaujolais produces stunning, waxy, crumpled, grey-green foliage which forms attractive rosettes from which endless upright, dark wine-red flower stems emerge continuously from May to September. The hundreds of nectar-rich blooms attract bees and butterflies in abundance, eager to enjoy a feast. Lysimachia is said to have been named after a king of ancient Sicily called Lysimachus, the story is told that he calmed a mad ox by feeding it a distant cousin of our more modern varieties. Lysimachia Beaujolais also lasts well when cut for the vase and is incredibly useful for making intriguing arrangements, introducing more unusual shapes to the ensemble. Being a fully hardy perennial, Lysimachia Beaujolais will thrive outside all year round. Preferring to be grown in moist soil in sun or part shade, Beaujolais reaches an eventual height and spread of 50-60cm. .
