Goji berries are small red berries which originated in Asia. For centuries they were a staple of ancient Chinese medicine. Not only did they help to cure ailments, but there was also a belief they could prolong life. Whether this is true or not, it is not for us to say. However, what has been scientifically analysed is the constituent parts of a Goji Berry. Analysis shows each berry has more than 20 minerals including calcium, iron, and selenium. Each berry contains vitamin A, B, C and E. Each berry contains antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and polysaccharides. This led to popular demand in the west to eat Goji berries. However, science also showed that if the berries are not fresh, much of the goodness is destroyed through processing. Therefore, grow your own Goji berries, eat them from the plant, use them in cooking, blend them into a juice, because your newly picked fresh berries will still have all the goodness contained within.
