After 10 years of rigorous specimen trials gardeners welcomed the stunning Lupinus 'Salmon Star'.Sure to make a statement in any garden border or pot throughout June and July, these giant-bloomed West Country Lupins cast others into the shade. Each spire is densely packed with pea-like blooms to form large flowerheads up to 15cm wide! Several flowerheads will be produced in the first year, over lush easily recognisable and attractive palmate foliage.The name Lupin derives from the Latin 'lupines' meaning wolf as the 'peas' that appear after flowering were said to be fit only for the consumption of wolves. Like most members of the family, Lupinus 'Salmon Star' is very tolerant of poor soils and will actually add fertiliser back into the ground. Flowers are excellent for cutting and highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. Prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. A hardy, herbaceous perennial which reaches a height of 90cm with a spread of 60cm.
