Description

Once the mainstay of the country garden, Lupin are now used in more modern planting styles.Small, pea-like blooms pack the top of strong stems creating stunning fragrant spires in early summer, often with a second flush later in the year. Adding a touch of class to any borders, the stems are excellent cut for indoor arrangements too, lasting well in a vase. The name Lupin derives from the Latin 'lupines' meaning wolf as the 'peas' that appear after flowering were said to be fit only for the consumption of wolves. Like most members of their family, Gallery Lupins are very tolerant of poor soils and will actually add fertiliser back into the ground. Lupin prefer well-drained soil in sun or part shade and are fully hardy perennials, dying back over winter in readiness to sprout again in the spring.
