Tell Me More...
An exciting and unusual cousin of the Witch Hazel which although smaller in size, lacks nothing in the colour stakes. Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum 'Ever Red' produces fabulously tasselled red flowers from February to April each year. These have an intoxicating but delicate scent and retain their rich, purple-red foliage all year; offering you extended interest for pots on balconies and in courtyards. Equally happy in a border or as a low-growing hedge - these shrubs mature to a height and spread of 1.5 metres. Whether in bloom or not the stems also make a fabulous addition to a vase or other floral display.Plant Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum 'Ever Red' where it will benefit from moist, well-drained soil, preferably with some shade and a south or west facing aspect. Trim to shape as required in early summer and offer some shelter from strong winds whilst plants establish. Hardy shrub tolerating temperature up to -10 degrees, may appreciate a winter mulch.
