Description

Beautiful green foliage with bluish undersides creates the perfect foil for the pretty blooms of Lonicera japonica periclymenum Belgica. In late spring and summer open clusters of red-flushed, white blooms cover the plant, each once slowing maturing to pretty shades of buttery yellow. During the warmest of summers, red berries follow, much to the delight of your local garden birds. Happily climbing and clambering up a trellis, fence or through a garden framework, it will also create a carpet of lush, green foliage if left to grow along the ground. The scent from the blooms tends to be stronger at night, so just perfect planted near a window so you can fully enjoy the sumptuous scent. The slender, tubular flowers are full of wonder and full of nectar. Much loved by pollinating insects, and hummingbirds, their long beaks fit just perfectly, hence the common name of the plant, Honeysuckle. Lonicera prefer to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade with roots in shade. Growing to a height of approximately 7cm, periclymenum Belgica is a fully hardy perennial that will grow outside all year round with no winter protection required.
