Description

Liriope are a genus of plant fast becoming popular in UK gardens. They are low growing, herbaceous flowering plants from East Asia with the intriguing common name, Lily Turf - which hails from the grass-like, evergreen foliage. However, these are not grasses, as is evidenced by the gorgeous lilac-purple flowers which grow from Liriope muscari 'Okina' from August to November each year. Flowers are similar to those produced by Muscari bulbs - hence the 'muscari' part of the name. Liriope are adaptable plants with the ability to withstand a wide range of conditions - drought, wet, sun or shade - nothing appears to bother this plant, stop it growing, nor stop it flowering. A truly versatile addition to the garden which provides valuable, weed-suppressing groundcover too. Liriope muscari 'Okina' is an architectural, shade-loving evergreen with young foliage which emerges white, becoming speckled then matures to green. The large, glistening, flower will brighten the garden when many flowers are fading away. Prefers moist, well-drained soil in partial or full shade. A hardy, herbaceous perennial which reaches a height of 40cm with a spread of 45cm.
