Liriope muscari Ingwersen

Native to China, Taiwan and Japan, Liriope muscari are fast becoming popular in UK gardens. Resilient and robust, grass-like foliage is retained all year - offering valuable weed-suppressing groundcover, alongside architectural interest to the front of a border or in a container. Then, from August to November each year, Liriope muscari 'Ingwersen' bears tall spikes of dainty, densely packed blooms in fabulous shades of lavender purple - contrasting beautifully with the vibrant green leaves. Flowers are similar to those produced by Muscari bulbs - hence the 'muscari' part of the name. Once flowers begin to fade then berries emerge for extended interest into winter. These are tough plants with the ability to withstand a wide range of conditions - drought, wet, sun or shade - and continue growing and flowering with sustained vigour. Liriope muscari 'Ingwersen' prefers to be planted in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from partial or full shade in order to perform to its best. A hardy, herbaceous perennial, plants reach a height of 40cm with a spread of 45cm.
