Description
An award-winning shrub with impressive pink flowers Lavatera originated in coastal areas in Western Europe. Lighthouse keepers may have introduced lavatera to the British Isles, as the leaves were once used as a treatment for burns - a common injury in their profession. The semi-evergreen foliage on your Lavatera 'Burgundy Wine' provides a bushy display of grey-green, fuzzy, lobed leaves. This subshrub also produces upright spikes of showy, dark pink flowers. A generous supply of these large, funnel-shaped blooms embellishes both your garden and your vases from June to September. An RHS award-winning variety, this hardy subshrub grows vigorously, thriving in the back of your sheltered border or container and encouraging bees and butterflies to visit. This low maintenance, drought-tolerant plant prefers any location except north-facing with full sunshine and light, well-drained soil. In 5-10 years, this variety reaches a height and spread of 2m by 2m.
