Though called English Lavender (Lavandula), this is actually a Mediterranean shrub, growing wild on baked hillsides. Pollinating insects are enticed into your garden by the fragrance from mid to late summer. Dries well if cut before flower head fully open, great for pot-pourri. Prefers sun in well-drained soil. Hardy perennial.

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
