Description

A wonderfully popular climbing plant, introducing stunning scent for your garden and your home Lathyrus odoratus Memorial Flight is one of the most fragrant white Sweet Peas with large, ruffled ivory-coloured flowers and a slightly green undertone. Once an essential of Victorian gardens, thanks to Scottish nurseryman Henry Eckford who took the insignificant wildflower and bred larger, more elaborate blooms more similar to the ones we know today. Synonymous with incredible scent and colour, and one of the birth flowers for April, Sweet Peas are colourful and so easy to grow, scrambling up trellis, over an arch or through a shrub. Originating in southern Italy, the newer varieties now have long, strong stems and larger blooms to give you armfuls of cut flowers to fill vases in your home all summer long and into the autumn, as the more you cut the more you get. Much loved by bees and butterflies and deer resistant, Lathyrus odoratus Memorial Flight is so easy and fun to grow and a great way to introduce children to gardening. It prefers to be grown in full sun or light shade, in moist, well-drained soil, whether in borders or containers. Reaching an eventual height of around 2m, Sweet Peas are half-hardy annuals, which should be kept out of the coldest weather, but remember to keep the seed which can easily be collected, so you can sow them again the following season and enjoy even more new plants.
