Description

Forget the usual annual Sweet Peas, the Everlasting Sweet Pea, Lathyrus latifolius Red Pearl are everything you could want in a climbing plant. Colourful, reliable and easy to grow Lathyrus latifolius is a perennial climber that will give you armfuls of cut flowers all summer long. Just cut them back in the autumn and they will shoot again in the spring. Climbing a trellis, scrambling through a shrub or spreading across the ground, the racemes of pea-like flowers which are not scented but are beautiful will create a beautiful display. Bumblebees will visit to pollinate the flowers and butterflies will visit to feast on the nectar. Being leguminous, Lathyrus Red Pearl will even put nitrogen back into the soil which benefits surrounding plants too. Lathyrus latifolius prefer to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Reaching a height of around 2m (6'), they will cling and climb, and do not required any protection during the winter months. Remember to collect the seed so you can have even more plants the following year.
