Lagerstroemia are a genus of flowering plants within the Lythraceae family, native to Asia and northern regions of Australia. They are often commonly referred to as ‘Crape’ or ‘Crepe Myrtle’. The genus is named after Magnus von Lagerstrom, a director of the Swedish East India Company.
Lagerstroemia are deciduous or evergreen trees or shrubs that often display gorgeously distinctive bark, simplistic foliage and conical panicles of flowers, each decorated with flamboyant petals. Lagerstroemia are best suited to wall side borders within courtyard, coastal or patio and container gardens.
