Kniphofia are a genus of flowering plants within the Asphodelaceae family, native to Africa. They are commonly known as ‘red hot pokers’ or ‘torch lilies’. The genus is named after the 18th century German botanist, Johann Hieronymus Kniphof.
Kniphofia are evergreen or herbaceous perennials with strap-shaped foliage and tall upright stems that fashion unique, tubular flowers to form a cone-like figure.
