Description

Knautia arvensis is a wonderful adaptable wildflower, flowering for 6 months from May to October. Much prized by florists for their capacity to make a statement in an arrangement, and also for being long lasting in a vase. Wildflower planting has become popular over the last few years, a testament to this being their permanent inclusion in the most prestigious of the RHS show gardens. Known as Field Scabious, arvensis literally meaning 'living in open fields' and describes perfectly where Knautia can be found growing in the British countryside. No garden is too small for wildflower meadow style planting. Happily hosting insects, birds, and other wildlife. Presenting a veritable feast of seeds, leaves, nectar, and pollen, whilst creating a safe habitat for shelter and a perfect place to breed. Knautia arvensis prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Reaching a mature height of 150cm she will spread to only 30cm. A fully hardy annual to RHS hardness rating of H7, the seed can be collected and sown for the following year.
