Itoh Peony Collection

This exciting and unusual Paeonia Itoh Collection includes plants developed in the late 1940s by Japanese nurseryman, Toichi Itoh. He was the first to succeed in crossing a hybrid tree peony with an herbaceous peony and the resultant plants were further developed by an American horticulturalist in the 1960s. Looking much like a Tree Peony, with a domed shape, they become dormant in autumn, like an herbaceous Peony, reappearing in early spring. They begin flowering in the first or second year in your garden and will continue for decades. This trio comprises: 'Pastel Splendour' - a rarity with ombre blooms in lilac, pink and cream with a deep purple red flare at the base - H: 90cm S: 50cm; 'Border Charm' - almost luminous yellow and red flowers for a hot and heady addition - H&S: 80cm; and 'Hillary' - redolent raspberry pink flowers which develop creamy tones as they mature - H&S: 90cm. Plant Paeonia Itoh Collection in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade. Hardy, herbaceous perennials which do not require winter protection throughout most of the UK.
