Description
This season we have several new varieties of Iris sibirica from the prized 'Peacock Butterfly' series developed in the USA. They are colourful, unusual and exciting, Grade 1 bare roots that will attract multitudes of admiring comments and provide sustenance to pollinators when they bloom from May to July each year. Iris sibirica 'Peacock Butterfly Festive Coquette' is one of these newbies and sure to catch your eye. The reddish-purple and yellow 'falls' or larger petals strikingly contrast with the paler lilac and creamy yellow interior, or standard petals. The duality of this intense colouration is one not to be missed and the sword-like foliage brings extended interest from March through to October without fading or falling over. Add to this their sweet, delicate fragrance - ideal for a vase as well as a border or container - and they become irresistible. Plant in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade for best results. Once roots are established Iris sibirica 'Peacock Butterfly Festive Coquette' is drought tolerant and able to withstand most winter weather in the UK without additional protection. A hardy, herbaceous perennial.
