With an incredible lemon scent, the historic Iris germanica Blue Rhythm produces elegant, cornflower-blue flowers with gorgeous silvery underlay from early summer, each with a white beard and yellow throat. Continuing until June, the blooms are held high above evergreen, sword-shaped foliage. Iris germanica are commonly known as Bearded Irises. They are grown from fleshy rhizomes opposed to the bulbs of other Irises. Iris germanica produce elegant flowers from early summer and although they look delicate are hardy. They get their common name Bearded Irises from the large and colourful lip which hangs from the flower like a 'beard' and guides our pollinating friends to the pollen held in the centre. Excellent as cut flowers for your home, lasting well in a vase, Iris Blue Rhythm will grow happily in borders and containers, reaching a mature height of around 1m, spreading to around 45cm forming an impressive clump of rhizomes that sit just proud of the soil. Preferring to be grown in well-drained soil in sun.
