Hydrangea seemannii

With big, beautiful blooms, Hydrangea seemannii is a rare and hardy, woody, evergreen climbing Hydrangea. We all love magnificent Hydrangeas but picking up the autumn leaves can be such a bind. Seemanii, being an evergreen, does not drop its leaves so gives you all-year round interest against fences, walls or when covering unsightly sheds. Clinging with aerial roots, the dark, serrated leaves provide a wonderful contrast for the large, domed clusters of green-white flowers which open from oval buds from spring, through the summer and into the autumn. Stems are excellent cut for long-lasting fresh flower arrangements, and when dried the blooms are stunning in stylish creations. In the language of flowers, Hydrangea symbolise love and peace, representing gratitude, grace and beauty. Hydrangea seemannii prefers to be grown in moist soil in a sunny or partly shaded spot. Reaching a height of 10-12m, and spreading to 3m, it is a fully hardy perennial with an RHS hardiness rating of H4.
