Description

Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris - certainly, a name to conjure with! Hydrangea - the plant which likes water, anomala - unusual, subsp - a subspecies of, petiolaris - unusual leaf stalk. So, putting it all together we have an unusual water loving plant which is the offspring of a hydrangea which had a rare leaf. That is the literal translation, however what you are receiving is an astonishing climbing hydrangea from the woodlands of Japan. The lace-cap cream and white flowers cover the plant and in the autumn the leaves turn as yellow as the winter sun. This hydrangea produces aerial roots so self-climbs up against pergolas, walls, or old trees. Being from the woodlands in the north of Japan it does not mind the cold, or the shade, and grows virtually anywhere. If you have a spot, you would like to cover with a climber this year, give this a go because it will grow where other climbers fear to tread.
