Description
Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears' is a daintier member of the much-loved hosta family. With blue-green, heart-shaped leaves which are small yet robust in texture and ideal for a pot, rockery or woodland border. As well as the fabulous foliage, 'Blue Mouse Ears', like other hostas, produces pale purple, bell-shaped flowers on strong stems during June to July each year. Flowers are ideal for cutting, particularly if you grow hosta plants mostly for their decorous leaves - this way you get a vase or bouquet with intriguing hosta flowers as an added bonus! Hostas originate from the Orient and were mostly introduced to Europe in the mid-19th century. Since then, new and exciting strains have been developed and the 'Mouse Ears' varieties are one of these. They draw their name from the slightly rounded, inwardly curling leaves which are said to resemble the ears of a mouse. Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears' is a fully hardy, herbaceous perennial which hold its leaves from March to November each year. Perfect as groundcover and happy in containers, 'Blue Mouse Ears' prefers a spot which benefits from moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade and reaches a height and spread of 40cm.
