Description

When you think of a Christmas garden, you probably think of snowmen, robins, and red berries on holly. Hollies are either male or female and she is the only one who can produce berries. So, to have the female covered in berries, she needs to have been pollinated by a male in the summer months. Nationwide, there is a shortage of male hollies. To ensure your Blue Angel is pollinated every year and you can look out on Christmas day and see a holly covered in red berries, you also receive her male partneru2026the Blue Prince. In summer, the Blue Prince produces flowers with pollen covered stamen, to attract the bees and the butterflies. She produces flowers too, but hers are filled with nectar. If you were a bee, you would go and collect pollen from the Blue Prince, then stop of for a drink of sweet nectar at the Blue Angel. As you fill yourself with nectar, you incidentally fertilise the Blue Angel, resulting in masses of berries in the winter. These are the perfect married couple, living together in harmony for years and years, producing an endless stream of berries for your enjoyment. When the weather is really freezing cold, both the Blue Prince and the Blue Angel produce an 'antifreeze' which turns their leaves blue! Both are compact holly bushes, so grow close together and like them, you will have years of happiness.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
