Hamamelis are one of the best winter shrubs and Hamamelis Fire Blaze is no exception. In the depths of winter, bare, leafless branches are adored by clusters of intriguing orange-red blooms with scented, spidery coppery-red petals. The branches can be cut and brought inside to be included within your flower arrangements so you can enjoy the spicy scent as the blooms open. However, the real finale comes in autumn, when the green foliage turns shades of beautiful, fiery, reds and yellows creating a stunning autumnal display, before dropping. Brand new green foliage emerges in spring. Commonly known as Witch hazel, which has been traditionally used as a treatment for cuts and bruises. Did you know that stems from Witch hazel have also been used for water divining. Hamamelis Fire Blaze prefers to be grown in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Growing to a height and spread of 3m, it is a fully hardy perennial that can be grown outside all year round with no winter protection, to be enjoyed both indoors and out for years to come.
