Geranium in general are much underused garden treasures, invaluable for their easy-going, undemanding nature, versatility and beautiful nectar-rich blooms. Easy to grow in either borders or containers, geranium are amazingly floriferous and give so much in return for so little attention. Low growing Geranium such as sanguineum and cantabrigiense varieties are tough little chaps, and create an evergreen carpet that is smothered all summer and into the autumn with saucer-shaped blooms. Forget the geranium you see in summer hanging baskets which are actually Pelargonium, hardy geranium, with their deeply dissected foliage create an attractive weed-suppressing groundcover which is slug and rabbit resistant, whilst being drought tolerant. The clumps get larger each year and can be divided after several years to create more plants to share. Not fussy on soil conditions, although preferring to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. As fully hardy perennials they survive even the coldest winters outside for years to come with no winter protection required

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
