Description

Gaultheria procumbens White Commonly known as the Partridge Berry or Wintergreen, this dwarf evergreen shrub brings a hint of festive cheer to any home as an abundance of bright white berries are produced, contrasting against the deep green foliage. While this hardy beauty makes a great edition to seasonal arrangements in this decorative pot, it is not just for Christmas; it will survive outside all year round, and you will be greeted with small, bell shaped flowers between May and June for years to come. This native American evergreen is happy indoors, providing it is exposed to bright light but no more than 1-2 hours of direct sunlight per day. In early spring however, Gaultheria should be planted outside in well-drained, acidic soil, in partial shade, and you should prune it back to old wood to inspire new green growth. Ultimately, the hardy Gaultheria can reach a height of 50cm and a spread of 1m. You might need to chop through the creeping and suckering stems once a year to keep everything under control.

How hardy are your plants?

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
