Description

Dark and dramatic, the damson purple spires of Fritillaria persica are intriguing, magical, and simply breath-taking.An unusual and exotic-looking plant - the dark purple bell-shaped flowers bloom on upright stems in spring, appearing much like a foxglove, standing up to 80cm high. Perfect for adding drama to your spring borders where they will tower gracefully above other bulbs such as narcissus and tulips, or mass planted in a vintage trough to make an impactful sight - sure to be a talking point! For best results, plant bulbs on their sides in spring in well-drained soil at a depth of 12cm. Take care not to damage the fragile bulbs and add a handful of grit to the planting hole to aid drainage. Shaded areas which remain damp in the summer are the best spot for these stunning British native beauties. The curving stems of maroon bells make excellent cut flowers, adding an unusual and graceful swoop to arrangements.

H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
