Description

An exquisite Turkish beauty, Fritillaria acmopetala bears unusual maroon and lime-green striped bells with a chartreuse heart to grace your garden in April and May. One of the easiest Fritillaria to grow, Fritillaria acmopetala is commonly known as the pointed petal fritillary for its nodding flowers, curved and pointed at the edges on stems of up to 60cm in height, in single or double blooms. The bulbs should be planted in autumn in full sun to part shade 20cm deep in any soil type, left to naturalise beautifully in your borders or meadow areas. Fritillaria acmopetala are also excellent planted in a pot as a group, or with other spring flowering bulbs; a dramatic combination of deep-maroon tulips and bright yellow dogs tooth violets to enhance the colours looks stunning. Bulbs and plants are rabbit and deer resistant and prefer growing in well-drained soil. The blooms also make excellent cut flowers, brought into the home where you can study and appreciate their rare beauty up close.

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
