Description
Pineapple-haired and perfect These southern African natives are affectionately known as Pineapple Lilies or Pineapple Flowers due to the outlandish, bracts of leaves capping their flower spikes. The trio of plants in your Eucomis collection will provide you with a wonderful display of these tousle-haired blooms over the summer months. Clumpy, deciduous foliage will first appear in March. These long, wavy-edged leaves will be followed by stout stems of diminutive, starry blooms. Finally, a tufty hat of striking, lime leaves will top each wand to create an intriguing display. The three varieties in this collection offer delicate spikes of flowers in a range of hues. Whether, greenish-white, cream maturing to dark green or pale green with a dainty purple edge, these flowers will make a charming addition to your garden or patio. Eye-catching in your home as cut flowers, your eucomis will also attract the attention of passing pollinators in your garden. These perennials are best grown in a sheltered, south or west facing location which benefits from the full sunshine. To help your Pineapple Lilies flourish, plant your bulbs in moist, well-drained soil and water thoroughly after planting. In autumn, provide your hardy plants with a generous layer of mulch to protect them from damp winter conditions. In maturity, the plants in your Eucomis Collection will range in height from 40cm to 75cm and will spread between 30cm and 50cm.
