Description
Erythronium pagoda The gently reflexed petals of Erythronium pagoda in the sunniest shade of yellow are sure to brighten the shadiest of areas in your garden in March and April. Commonly known as dogs tooth violet because the bulb resembles a canine tooth, Erythronium pagoda is a wonderful woodland plant with a rosette of glossy-green, marbled foliage bearing deep-brown stems of up to 10 nodding yellow blooms, each 5cm wide. An award-winning member of the Liliaceae family originating from California, the star-like flowers of dog's tooth violets closely resemble lilies, with curved petals and prominent, bright stamens. Each plant will reach a height of 35cm and width of 10cm and will spread happily in a shady border or spring pot. Plant the bulbs in August to September in rich, moist soil which can drain easily in a sheltered position where vigorously growing Erythronium pagoda can naturalise and capture you with their elegant beauty each spring.
